Mariah Carey American Idols’ highest paid judge

SINGER Mariah Carey has become the highest paid reality show judge after she signed a one-year deal worth about US$18 million with American Idol. The 42-year-old surpassed ex-judge Jennifer Lopez’s fees of US$12 million for her first year of the show.
Carey also left singer Britney Spears behind with her making US$15 million in reality show X-Factor.
Expressing her excitement about working on the American singing reality show, she wrote on Twitter.
“It’s gonna be so much fun working on American Idol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help, find and nurture new talent,” she wrote.
American Idol is increasingly under pressure in the ratings from rival shows like Simon Cowell’s X Factor USA and The Voice. Last season’s finale was the least watched in its history and the show is seeing its young adult audience shrink.
Several former winners have also failed to find success.
“Not being the only game in town now, we need to keep things fresh,” said Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly.
No announcement has been made on a third judge. Reilly added: “We have the biggest names in the business, like Mariah Carey, interested in doing this. “So for the next couple of weeks it will be a matter of picking the right one, with the right chemistry, making the deal and finalizing this.”
Ryan Seacrest will be back as the show’s host. Previous judges include Paula Abdul, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres.
Former head judge Simon Cowell was asked about Mariah Carey joining American Idol. “I’m happy for her, actually,” he said. “I like Mariah. I think she’s going to find it difficult to say no. I think she’ll be great.”

Phillip Phillips Wins American Idol

With a name that I find completely crazy to have, Phillip Phillips has won American Idol and has been celebrating ever since.

After a record-breaking 132 million votes, Jessica Sanchez became the runner-up on “American Idol,” making Phillip Phillips the new Season 11 champ on Wednesday night.

The “Idol” finale was crowded with Hollywood stars and die-hard fans, who went ballistic upon hearing the 21-year-old pawn shop worker was their new “American Idol.”

Phillips, a Georgia native, took the stage one last time after winning the singing competition to sing his new single “Home,” but was not able to finish the song as he broke down in tears and left the stage to embrace his overjoyed family members in the front row.

Last year’s “Idol” winner, part-Puerto Rican country singer Scotty McCreery presented Phillips with a trophy, as he symbolically passed on the torch from one winner to another.

“It’s been such an honor,” said Phillips. “And the fans! Thank you for voting for us.”

When asked backstage what was going through his mind when he found out he won “American Idol,” Phillips said it seemed surreal.

“I wasn’t thinking about anything, not even the song,” he told the press backstage, People magazine reported.

“I wasn’t really wanting to sing or anything. I just started thinking about the whole journey and how far all of us have come, and how we’ve made it. It’s so overwhelming.”

Phillips’ competition Jessica Sanchez didn’t seem sad she lost the “Idol” title, but was happy for her friend Phillips and “the whole crew of American Idol” for supporting her. Like Phillips, she thanked the fans for voting.

The finale also featured multiple over-the-top performances by the top “American Idol” girls and guys, who paid tribute to Robin Gibbs.

Donna Summer dead at 63

The blog continually seems to have someone major in the music industry passing away.  This time, Donna Summer has died at 63.  She was a victim of lung cancer;

“She had lung cancer,” says the source. “She got it about a year ago. She was not a smoker.” (Summer had, however, smoked in the past.)

Summer, who was 63, remained highly guarded about her condition – many of her close friends didn’t even know she was sick. “Her family knew. I just think that she’s private,” the “It’s not like she was in bad shape. She was healthy, she was taking care of herself,” says the source, who worked with Summer in 2008. “She was healthy and energetic when I worked with her.”

The singer’s family announced Summer’s death Thursday, saying in a statement that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.”

In his own statement issued from the White House, President Barack Obama said, “Donna truly was the ‘Queen of Disco.’ Her voice was unforgettable, and the music industry has lost a legend far too soon.”

Another sad day for the music industry.  RIP.

Adam Yauch, MCA of ‘Beastie Boys’ is dead at 47

In a sad turn of events, Adam Yauch(MCA) of famous 80′s and 90′s rap group Beastie Boys has passed away due to his bout with cancer.

In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node (below). He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

Russell Simmons‘ website  first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock. The group has won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

MCA became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.

It’s another sad day in 2012 for the music industry.  They changed a lot of the way music was presented on Television and across the radio.

Music fans hanker for Ray Charles hologram

So after millions of people have watched TuPac dance around and rap on stage at Coachella, the world has been a buzz since this technology was unveiled in the states.  Now apparently most fans would want to see Ray Charles after a recent poll done to the mass of people.

Reuters asked Los Angeles-based E-Poll Market Research, which surveys consumers about celebrities for Hollywood’s major studios and TV networks, to pull together a list of dead celebrities who remain popular and, like Tupac, might still be big draws at a concert if only as a hologram.

Perhaps surprisingly, given his status as the King of Rock, Elvis Presley managed only a second place tie with country singerJohnny Cash. It was soul legend Ray Charles who topped the list, judged by a combination of fan appeal, audience awareness and perceptions of talent. The researchers label the overall grade an “E-Score.”

John Lennon - imagine that – was fourth, and one notch below came ol’ blue eyes, Frank Sinatra. Another king, this one of pop music, Michael Jackson, failed to make the top 10, but just by one notch. And while Tupac caused a sensation at Coachella, he could only muster 16th place, just behind Tammy Wynette.

A list of music performers most likely to be enjoyed by fans in an after-life hologram is below, ranked according to their “E-Score.” The figures were derived from E-Poll’s weekly survey of some 1,100 people ages 13 and older. Rank Celebrity E-Score

1 Ray Charles 100

2 Johnny Cash 99

3 Elvis Presley 99

4 John Lennon 98

5 Frank Sinatra 98

6 Bob Marley 96

7 James Brown 96

8 Whitney Houston 95

9 George Harrison 93

10 Jimi Hendrix 92

11 Michael Jackson 91

12 Luther Vandross 90

13 Janis Joplin 89

14 Isaac Hayes 87

15 Tammy Wynette 84

16 Tupac Shakur 77

17 Miles Davis 75

Rolling Stones Entering Studio Soon

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has told the Daily Mirror that the veteran British rock and roll band will be entering a recording studio next month to“throw some ideas around.”

Wood explained that the band needs to get back into the groove. “It’s like working out for the Olympics or something,” Wood said. “You’ve got to go into training. So we’re going to go into training.”

This week Wood will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Faces. While he’s in the U.S., he will play a solo gig in Atlantic City. He also told the Mirror he might record another solo album.

“Lots of people don’t know I’ve made seven, ’cause most of my albums escape; they’re not released. Keith [Richards] says they all skyrocket to oblivion.”
